We were out for a drive and came across the chequers. It looked good from the outside so decided to eat there. We were shown to our table in a really old room with a nice atmosphere. Our waitress could not have done more for us. We had a lovely meal, The service was great, we could not have asked for more. The waitress went above and beyond what she is employed for, Telling us about the area, Where to look at and what to do.

Easy to book, very friendly Staff. Able to accommodate large party. Great menu, pre ordering worked fantastically. Service excellent. Portions huge!

Lovely English pub, we sat near the bar area and the fireplace- so very cozy... we ordered shrimp and Garlic and a Barbie burger! Food is absolutely fantastic!

Good old style pub and restaurant with a variety on the menu including traditional pub meals. Great pub, good food, would recommend.

New menu improvements A great family dinner for 6 of us Selection of starters prawn and salmon starter very fresh vibrant flavours. Mushrooms on toast creamy and great size. Onion soup with cheese crouton a lovely classic dish done so well the chef knows his stuff Burgers were massive, loaded to the hilt with toppings succulent and juicy and plenty of flavour. Best beef ribs I have had in a long time really tasty BBQ sauce and so nice not to be smothered in sauce so you could actually taste the meat Pork belly with perfect crackling really good portion size and meat was still juicy Tender and pink lamb rump dish was very seasonal and again good flavours You have to try the baked Alaska this was truly tasty and perfection on a plate Will certainly return when next visiting family based on this visit and highly recommended to those lucky enough to live close by

Lunch I take my mum out for lunch once a week and we both loved the rustic nature of this lovely pub. The risotto was cooked beautifully plus I was delighted there was Welsh rarebit on offer; not a lot of places are doing that any more. We'll definitely be back.

Great Food Great Service! I ate here last week and the food was superb! French onion soup, the best I'd had in years - rich and gooey with a very cheesey crouton on top! Then the star of the show - BEEF WELLINGTON - WOW! My friend had huge garlic prawns to start and a duck breast for mains - they were also fabulous. We didn't have room for desserts! We will be back!

My wife and I had a lovely dinner here, the food was excellent, the ambience is relaxed and old world. We spent just the right amount of time, with no pressure, the portions are very generous and very well presented. A lovely time on a very wet Saturday afternoon.
